This initiative comes from an idea we had here at Humming a long time ago - having seen a gap in the market for local creative industries to promote themselves, from a grassroots & free perspective.
The concept is an online guide and collective open day for creative businesses to promote, exhibit and sell their work and wares, with the aim of increasing foot traffic and sharing networks.
Launching on Saturday November 26, the very first of these - Surry Hills High - saw more than 40 businesses participate in their own way: from 'Quadrangle', a rooftop marketplace at Office2010, to gallery tours at Brett Whiteley Studio, an open house run by Tribe Architects, and pop-up fashion shops, store giveaways and promotions.
We arranged partnerships with great businesses to help us produce print collateral and get the word out there - including Carbon8, Spicers, The Thousands and Justus Magazine.
Alongside the substantial pitching, promoting, press releases and foot-work (!) that go with a new initiative and event, Humming created the brand, postcards, map, and developed the website (using Wordpress as a platform). Phew!
This was the first in a line of events we are planning for Surry Hills High and beyond... watch this space!
(The platform for the website itself is adaptable and modular, and based on a user-generated model, suiting various needs. Contact us if you'd like to discuss a fit for your business!)
