yooouuutuuube!

doesn't everyone love a mosaic?

a stunning interactive experiment by david kraftsow of dont save, i've used radiohead's lotus flower here, but you can enter your own video by going directly to the yooouuutuuube home page (be sure to experiment with the zoetrope 'flux' mode!).

(via it's nice that).

(march 2011)

while i was there: sophie

related my previous post about annemarieke van drimmelen... these are some images from her collaboration with artist anouk griffioen.

entitled sophie, the body of work was exhibited in Amsterdam late last year.

...an important theme in the duo’s shared vision is the concept of transparency, which they define as the tendency to make everything explicitly visible on an image.

hero: annemarieke van drimmelen

boys, girls and shadows. i love annemarieke van drimmelen's photographic style -

in a lot of her work - especially for scotch and soda* - it appears as though the dutch photographer has just gone for a stroll with her (albeit rather attractive and well-dressed) friends, capturing moments carefully, while at the same time featuring the clothing and textural details clearly important to her clients.

so clever! the feeling is totally natural and cool.

(*we love scotch and soda here at humming hq!)

hero: steve jobs

always a showman - rip steve jobs.

i may never have met you, but i have spent an extraordinary amount of time, become intimately acquainted (and earned most of my income) with your produce...

stunning 1967 image by richard avedon...

that's all!

lotus flower

from the amount i post about it, you'll gather that i like dance... rather a lot.

this is radiohead's lotus flower from their recent album the king of limbs... involving thom yorke performing an intense wayne mcgregor choreographed piece.

incredible. love it.

(with 12 million-plus viewers on youtube i'm reminded that it is not a new vid. please do bare with me as i'm catching my blog up a little and trying to catalogue previous finds... !)

gotye+kimbra+frank de backer

=catchy!

cool tune by gotye, extra vocals by kimbra, and wonderful graphic / artwork by frank de backer...

chalk lettering

i'm so inspired by those who do things a little differently.

dana tanamachi is an adc young gun, a graphic designer and chalk letterer. indeed, you heard me correctly: a chalk letterer.

we're not talking café menus: this lil vid shows her process of creating the ultimate in typographic lock-ups (which of course involves much wiping, redoing, wiping, and redoing).

hand-generated type maintains it's hold, and this brings a whole lovely 'other' feeling to the trend.

appropriately, she works for louise fili, where no doubt her skills fit right in.

hero: jr

this stopped me in my tracks - beautiful, inspiring and meaningful.

jr utilises large format photography to underline social and political messages (or in his terms 'raise questions') in the most lateral way... be it palestinians and israelis 'face to face' on both sides of the fence, or 'highlighting the dignity of women who are the target of conflict'.

diverse projects best summed up in this video (left), and more info here. 'as he is anonymous and doesn’t explain his huge full-frame portraits of people making faces, JR leaves the space empty for an encounter between the subject/protagonist and the passerby/ interpreter.'

JR won the ted prize this year.
